An ophthalmologic and psychiatric study on the headache Chiefly on the depression, anxiety, deviations and refractive errors


Abstract
In order to perform this cooperative study, in psychiatric perspective, authors got normal control samples of 951 for depressive neurosis group and 1081 for anxiety neu¡þrosis group with translated forms of the self-rating depression scale(SDS) and the self¡þrating anxiety scale(SAS) of W.W.K. Zung.
Authors has tested psychiatric out-clinic patients by the SDS and SAS before initial interview, and the results were classified patients with diagnosis which conformed by psychiatrist at the out-clinic of department of psychiatry, Chungnam university hospital, and author got data from 336 depressive neurosis patients, 183 anxiety neurosis patients, and 85 eye clinic patients.
In ophthalmologic perspective, author has tested horizontal and vertical deviation, and refractive errors by the prism cover test and maddox rod test for 88 normal con¡þtrol group, 141 eye patient group, and 96 psychiatric out patient group.
The results were as follow:
1. Depression and anxiety was highest in sequence of normal control group, eye clinic patient group, and depressive or anxiety neurosis group.
2. In horizontal deviation, most eye clinic patient was in the normal range of 5¡Æ and most psychiatric clinic patient was in the range of 6-10.
3. In vertical deviation, all of study groups was in the range of 1¡Æ.
4. In refractive errors, all of study groups was in the range of ¡¾0.50 D and there was no differences between each groups.
5. Result which many psychiatric patient group has a vertical deviation suggested some relations between neurotics and eye clinic patients.
